Overdosing on the Cardboard Crack

I really haven’t played a lot of Magic lately, but that’s all about to change.

First, I’m flying my girlfriend into Columbus next weekend for the Future Sight prerelease.

Okay, it’s not really for that. It just happened to be the same weekend. And because I’m so lucky that she loves me so much, we’re playing Two-Headed Giant on Saturday in one of the flights. (Normally I’d play in the 2HG main-event on Sunday, but I don’t want to subject her to that—it’s a long day.)

Plus, have you seen any Future Sight spoilers? I mean, there’s not really too much that’s confirmed, but wow. Looks like there are a decent number of playables. I’ll try to have a writeup on my impressions as next weekend approaches.

So, yeah, pretty excited about Future Sight and reuniting the original, second-place finishing 2HG team.

The weekend after that, at least Twaun and I are planning on heading to the Windy City to take part in the “Win Becker’s Collection” tournament. From Eric “kobefan” Becker’s announcement at TMD:
1st Place: Mox Sapphire
2nd Place: The entire deck I’m playing that day, UBr Grim Long (Grims, Iseal, and Power will be proxied)
3rd Place: Beta Wheel of Fortune
4th Place: FBB Underground Sea
5th – 8th: Will be prizes totaling around $50 each.

I will also be holding a side event that will be free entry if you played in the main event or $5 otherwise. It’ll be starting the concurrently with the last round of swiss.
1st Place: 4x Force of Will
2nd Place: 2x Misdirection
Here are the details.

When:
Saturday, April 28th.
Registration starts at 11:00, event starts at noon.

Where:
College of Dupage
425 Fawell Blvd.
Glen Ellyn, IL

Entry: $25 and 2 non-perishable food items (or a $2 donation).
The food and donations will be given to The Chicago Food Depository. .
15 proxies will be allowed. Please, no slips of paper, follow the SCG proxy guidelines.
Doesn’t that sound awesome? The prizes are so deep they extend into a second tournament! Plus, canned food given to the Chicago Food Depository: Nice!

After that, we will monster truck it back to Twaun’s hometown of Toledo to rest up and head for RIW on Sunday for the nightcap of this doubleheader weekend. Again from TMD:
Sunday April 29th RIW Hobbies will be hosting a 10 proxy Vintage tournament for an Unlimted Ancestral Recall. Deck registration will begin at noon and the tournament will start at 1PM. Hope to see you all!

So, yeah, a lot of driving and a lot of Magic. What could be better?

Then, the weekend after that, it’s an all Legacy extravaganza with two more tournaments here in the Heart of it All, Ohio.

First, Saturday, there’s a tournament in Sandusky for a playset of Force of Wills:
When:
Saturday, May 5, 2007
Registration starts at noon
Tournament starts at 1 pm

Where:
The Gamers Lounge
127 E. Market St.
Sandusky, OH 44870
(419) 621-0282

First Place gets a playset of Forces of Will!

Cost: $10 Sanctioned
A lot of people have been asking me when the Gamers Lounge will hold their next Vintage tournament, and all I can say is, I’m not sure. It should be soon as summer is upon us and good driving weather make people more likely to show up. It sounds like the first of these tournaments will be headlined by a Grim Tutor they have in the case at the Lounge, and the prizes will extend a little bit deeper to make up for the fact that it’s not exactly a Mox. I’m looking forward to it.

The next Sunday, there’s another Legacy tournament at The Soldiery in Columbus with the same basic deal as before. Everyone’s gearing up for the late-May Grand Prix in Columbus, and either one of these tournaments should be a great place to get your game on and get some practice in.

From TMD:
What:
Legacy tournament
Entry is $15

Where:
The Soldiery
4256 N. High St.
Columbus, Ohio 43214

When:
May 6, 2007

Prizes: Will be based upon attendance. Last time we gave away
1st: $200
2nd: $120
3rd:$60
4th:$20

Regardless of attendance, $200 is guaranteed to be given away, like last time.

Registration starts at 12:30. Tournament begins at 1pm sharp.
Tournament will probably run until around 8-9pm.

Swiss with cut to top 8 (unless low attendance, cut to top 4).
If you’re having a hard time deciding between the Sandusky and Columbus tournaments, do what I’m gonna do: attend both!

If you’ve been counting, that’s five (possibly six if you count Becker’s side tourney for the Forces and Mis-Ds) tournaments in three weekends and three states. After no Magic for more than a month, I’ll have cardboard overload, and it will be awesome.

All I have to do now is to find decks for Vintage and Legacy.

Now, I know that at least Chicago or Michigan will see me play UB Fish. It’s been too, too long for that deck and I really want to play it again in a tournament setting. Plus, I have some new ideas that I’m eager to try out. Maybe I’ll put something together on that, maybe not. It could all be secret tech.

However, I also feel like I have something to prove about Belcher. Nah, I’m just kidding. I’m sure every color of Belcher has its merits, and I really don’t care what other people want to play. I just know that, if I play Belcher, it will be black and blue free.

As far as Legacy goes, eh, I’ve already got UWg Grow put together, so I’ll probably just play that both days. Yeah. Sounds good to me.

I don’t know, though. That much Magic might warrant entirely new decks for both Vintage and Legacy. Just to see what happens.

Anyway, sorry I sort of phoned this one in, but I’ll see you all at the cardtables!

Oh yeah, also, it just so happens that my $120 state tax refund just about exactly pays for all five of these tournaments. It must be fate. I'm winning them all!
